Cinnamon is a spice obtained from the inner bark of several tree species from the genus Cinnamomum. Cinnamon is used mainly as an aromatic condiment and flavoring ingredient in a wide variety of cuisines, sweet and savory dishes, breakfast cereals, snack foods, tea and traditional foods.

You can use powdered cinnamon or grounded. Even though “ground” and “powdered” cinnamon mean the same; you might still notice differences. That’s because not all cinnamon is really cinnamon. The pale, fragrant variety is the real Ceylon cinnamon, while the darker variety is known properly known as cassia.

Cinnamaldehyde stimulated the metabolism of the fatty visceral tissue. Cinnamon has high dietary fiber which shows promise as a possible treatment for type 2 diabetes and high cholesterol. Suggesting that cinnamon could be useful in reducing belly fat. Cinnamon is high in  minerals and vitamins such as calcium, iron, magnesium, vitamin B-6. Because of high in calcium it is very good for arthritis. Vitamin B-6 and iron content support anemia patients’. Cinnamon has  good amount of magnesium content which gives relive in vata dosha.

Recipe to reduce Vata Dosha

Ingredients: 1 cup unsweetened almond milk / tablespoons pumpkin puree / 1 teaspoon coconut butter / 1 date, pitted and soaked / 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon / 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger / Pinch of ground nutmeg / 1/2 teaspoon ashwagandha powder

In a low heat, warm the almond milk until just barely simmering. Remove from the heat and transfer to the container of a high speed blender. Add the remaining ingredients and blend on high until completely smooth. Serve warm to get relief from vata dosha.

Tip: coconut butter completely solid and stubborn to grind.  You will want to warm the jar to soften the butter before you start the rest of your ingredients ready, otherwise your warm milk will get cold and you will have to start all over again.

Recipe for digestion in winter days (Mulled Cider)

Ingredients: 2 quarts apple cider / 2 cinnamon sticks / 2 whole allspice berries / 2 whole cloves / 1 orange, thinly sliced. Place all ingredients in a large saucepan and bring to a simmer on the grates of the grill or over a burner and serve hot with a pinch of cinnamon powder to increase the aroma.

IMMUNE SYSTEM: Daily use of honey and cinnamon powder strengthens the immune system and protects the body from bacterial and viral infection.

COLDS: Take one tablespoon lukewarm honey with 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon powder daily for three days to cure most chronic cough, cold, and clear the sinuses.

BLADDER INFECTIONS: Take two tablespoons of cinnamon powder and one teaspoon of honey in a glass of lukewarm water and drink it.

WEIGHT LOSS: Daily in the morning one half hour before breakfast on an empty stomach, and at night before sleeping, drink honey and cinnamon boil in one cup of water to avoid fat to accumulate in the body.

PIMPLES: Apply, three tablespoons of honey and one teaspoon of cinnamon powder, half lemon juice mix well all ingredients and paste on the pimples before sleeping and wash it next morning with warm water for two weeks to remove pimples from the root.

SKIN INFECTIONS: Apply honey and cinnamon powder on the affected parts cures eczema, ringworm and all types of skin infections.

ARTHRITIS: Take daily, morning and night, one cup of hot water with two teaspoons honey and one small teaspoon cinnamon powder. If taken regularly even chronic arthritis can be cured.

HEARING LOSS: Daily morning and night honey and cinnamon powder, take in same portion to restore hearing power.

FATIGUE: Sugar content of honey is more helpful rather than being detrimental to the strength of the body. Half tablespoon of honey taken in a glass of water and sprinkled with cinnamon powder, taken daily after brushing and in the afternoon increases the vitality of the body within a week.

Note: 1.Cinnamon is one of the most important flavoring agents in food and drinks. Research reveals that coumarin is present, in substantial amounts in cinnamon floverd foods. Coumarin is very toxic to the liver and cause severe damage to this organ. 2. Excess of any thing is not good for health.

How to store:

Cinnamon has a longer shelf-life than other spices when stored properly in a tightly-sealed and dry jar or container in a cool, dry place.
