Vatana Bhat Masala: Peas Rice Masala


After dessert today, we are going to make Vatana Bhat Masala, you can name it Matar bhat/ Peas rice/ Vatane bhat. It is very famous in Maharashtra. We make this rice in the winter season at this time; the market is full of peas, and we do try a lot of dishes with peas. One of them is Vatana Bhat. So let’s start with to ingredients.

Ingredients:

  • Rice – 1 cup
  • Oil – 2 tsp
  • Cumin – 1/2 tsp
  • Bay leaves – 2
  • Green Chilli – 1 (Optional)
  • Clove – 4
  • Cardamom – 3
  • Cinnamon powder – 1/4 tsp
  • Ginger – 1-inch coin
  • Turmeric – 1/4 tsp 
  • Salt – as per taste
  • Peas – 1/2 cup
  • Garam Masala – 1/2 tsp(optional)
  • Kala Masala – 1/2 tsp(optional)
  • Water – 2 cup
  • Grated Coconut – For Garnishing 
  • Coriander leaves – For Garnishing
  • Ghee – As per your taste (Optional)

First, wash your rice, remove water, and keep aside for 15 minutes. Now make mild masala for vatane bhat. Take cloves, cardamom, cinnamon, ginger, chili, ginger, and make a paste. Now take pressure pan to add oil make a condiment add step by step cumin, Bay leaves, Vatane bhat mild masala, turmeric stir it nice till it gives a great smell. Garam masala and Kala masala are optional. If you like more spicy, then add here at this time. Now add rice and peas and mix it well, add water and stir it once. Close the lid till two-whistle. After the presser come down, open and serve, garnish with coconut, coriander, and ghee. Ghee adds a great flavor to Vatana Bhat. I love to add it. Yes! It’s ready you can enjoy this hot with some salad.
