Metkut Powder: Dal Bhat Masala in Hindi


This is the specialty of south – west India. There are verities in these types of ready mix powders in India, Indians love to have different types of powders to mix in rice and make different dishes. In this one of them today I am going to share with you all that is metkut powder. There are two verities in the metkut one is the Pune style and the other one is the Vidarbha style.

Pune Metkut

Pune style Metkut:

Ingredients:
Red Chili – 3 Pieces
Udad Dal – 1 cup
Chana Dal – ½ cup
Raw Rice – ½ cup
Coriander Seeds – 3tsp
Cumin Seeds (Jeera)– 2tsp
Mustard Seeds (Rai)– 2tsp
Wheat Flour – ½ cup
Turmeric Powder – ½ tsp
Dry Ginger Powder – 2tsp
Asafoetida (Hing) – 1tsp
Salt – 1 tsp/ As per the taste
Recipe: Take Red chili, Udad Dal, Chana Dal, Raw Rice as per the given quantity in a pan. Roast it all well till change the color and now keep aside till cool down. Now add Coriander seeds, Jeera, and Rai in pan heat this all till light crisp.
Roast Wheat flour till light brown and now add all Ingredients in a grinder and add Turmeric powder, Ginger powder and Asafoetida (Hing), and Salt. Now grind it well till you find a fine powder.

Vidarbh Metkut

Vidarbha Style Metkut:

Ingredients:
Dry Red Chili – 2 Pieces
Udad Dal – 100 g.
Chana Dal – 100 g.
Mustard Seeds (Rai)– 2 tbs
Asafoetida (Hing) – 1tsp
Salt – As per Taste
Turmeric Powder – 1tsp
Take Red chili, Udad Dal, Chana Dal as per the given quantity in a pan. Roast it all well till change the color and now keep aside till cool down. Do not roast Rai this is the specialty of Vidarbh Metkut. Add Turmeric powder, Asafoetida (Hing), Rai and Salt with roasted items and now grind it well till you find a fine powder.

How to Consume:
Consuming metkut is the same way for Pune and Vidarbha metkut. You can add little vegetable oil in it and have with chapatti (homemade wheat bread) or add a spoon of ghee and mix with hot rice, or roasted bread apply butter on it and sprinkle little metkut powder and enjoy your tasty breakfast or meal. You can also mix metkut with curd and serve as side dish. I am sure you will fill great with the yummy mouthwatering treat of metkut. Just store homemade metkut and consume whenever you want and especially if you are a lazy bird of cooking then this is the best for you just cook rice and add the powder with ghee and enjoy your homemade food.

How to store:
Let cool down your metkut powder and take a dry and airtight jar to store metkut, Now fill the jar with metkut, before closing the jar take a little wet cloth and clean the jar mouth, from outside than close the jar and keep it in a dry place.
