Ginger is a plant rhizome, ginger root called ginger, is widely used as a spice and a folk medicine also. The root or underground stem (rhizome) of the ginger plant can be consumed fresh, powdered, dried as a spice, in oil form or as juice. Ginger is used alongside cardamom and turmeric. It is commonly found in India, Jamaica, Fiji, Indonesia, and Australia.

Ginger Aids digestion is a popular remedy for nausea, notable for travel and morning sickness and improves circulation, in natural medicine. It is also used to protect against respiratory problems, digestive infection problems, to ease flatulence and griping pains. Ginger can be chewed to relive toothache. Taken at the first signs of a cold or flu, hot ginger tea makes a comforting drink and may help to clear a blocked nose and stimulate the liver to remove toxins from the bloodstream.

Ginger is a natural decongestant. Eating natural decongestants may be helpful, include raw or cooked herbs and spices such as ginger in your daily meal. Ginger has anti-cold properties. Foods that contain ginger include ginger bread, ginger candy, ginger cookies, ginger snaps, ginger ale, ginger tea and a wide variety of savory recipes.

How to consume:

Ginger Tea: It is made with a teaspoon of freshly grated ginger, the juice of half a lemon and a teaspoon of honey, topped up with boiling water. In Pregnancy ginger tea may ease morning sickness.

Infusion of peppermint and ginger are used by herbalists to treat cold – they are thought to improve the circulation and relieve catarrh.

Clove and ginger to have an expectorant action. An infusion of thyme may be used as a gargle to relieve sore throats. Ginger is good in arthritis problems also because of its anti – inflammatory agent. Ginger deactivates free radicals that can cause tissue damage and inflammation. In Diarrhea take extra fluids in the form of a re-hydration solution (Two glasses for each bout) to replace lost fluids, to soothe the digestive tract, try sipping up to three cups a day of ginger or cinnamon tea sweetened with a little honey.

Ginger can be good in Migraine. Use in cooking or made into a tea by pouring boiling water over the freshly grated root, has been claimed by same alternative practitioners to help to relive the nausea and this has been backed up by some clinical trials.

In travel or motion sickness: There are many effective remedies for travel sickness, most of which need to be taken before you travel. Alternatively chew a few pieces of peeled fresh ginger before and during your journey. There are many effective remedies for travel sickness but ginger has proven more effective in preventing travel sickness than a number of drugs, without causing drowsiness.

You can carry some ginger candies with you in traveling and for that no need to go out and search for that, you can make it at home as like other recipes. Just take some grated ginger, sugar and lemon juice cook well and make small balls and let it cool down, after some time when candy becomes hard, your candies are ready to travel with you.

For best result in cold and Flu – Mix with carrier oil and massage into the chest, inhale or add 6 drops to running bath water. It may irritate the skin if applied undiluted.

Ginger is sweet and hot root spice helps to shut down the production of prostaglandins. The prostaglandin released in an immune response cause aches and pains that accompany cold and flu. In flu Ginger helps to quell nausea and vomiting. For Prostaglandins problem you can consume ginger as rhizome or dried powder form. If you have dried powder with you than take 1 tsp of dry powder and 1 tsp sugar mix well and consume with warm water for fast results.

Note: Every times just remember that excess of anything is not good, have patience and discusses with your doctor before you try.

How to store:

If you want to Store Ginger powder than use dry airtight containers and store in a cool place for long time. Powdered ginger likewise can put aside for long time in refrigerator with nice and strong flavor.
